During this time of change, the federal government became stronger, political parties developed, and the Supreme Court established judicial review. The country expanded westward with the Louisiana Purchase. Nationalism increased after the War of 1812 as the government focused on national policy.

Welcome back! This week we have a flipped schedule, with a rally on Friday. Today in class, we will begin to look at the United States in the early part of the 19th century, focusing on expansion and the age of Andrew Jackson. Below you will find our objectives, agenda, and homework for the day.

1) Describe the early years of the federal government, including the development of the two-party system, and the importance of the Louisiana Purchase and the War of 1812.
2) Summarize the key issues and events of the presidency of Andrew Jackson.

HOMEWORK
1)Read 0.1 for Monday. 13 As you read, define the vocabulary on the Study guide and take notes on a separate piece of paper.

Write a letter to yourself outlining your academic goals for the upcoming school year.  Make sure to be honest with yourself! Your letters opening paragraph should address your current motivation level and personal expectations as school is beginning. 


In the next paragraph, you should write your answers to the following questions in complete sentences.  This will be shared with a clock partner and you will turn in your paper at the end of the period. Try to hold yourself accountable for what you write today by revisiting this letter on a regular basis!
