12.5 The War Ends
1.     Why was the Battle of the Bulge such a disastrous defeat for Germany? 
2.     What issues did Truman consider before using the atomic bomb?
3.     How is the UN organized?
4.     Explain how the US developed the atomic bomb.
5.     Describe the war crimes trials.
6.     Why do you think the goal of world peace has yet to be achieved?


Illustrative Design
Your task is to graphically illustrate a concept from the Unit. You have an option on what to do. The general requirements are that color is used, it accurately depicts one of the concepts, you indicate which option you have chosen, and that it follows the directions for the task. You must write a paragraph explaining what is happening in your drawing (a paragraph is 6-7 sentences). Whoever has the most creative/intelligent drawing will be hung up on the timeline!

Option 1

Create a political cartoon depicting one of the following themes:
-        Japanese interment from the perspective of a Japanese American
-        Anti- (German, Italian, or Japanese) sentiments
-        Other… you tell me what would be good (use good judgment)

Option 2

Create a propaganda poster for the war effort. This must try to inform the American people about how important the war effort is. This may include the work of civilians, buying of war bonds, support of the military, or something else. Please make this original!!!

Option 3

Create a map or picture that displays the events of one of the following military incursions:
-        Iwo Jima
-        Midway
-        D-Day
-        Island Hopping Campaign
-        Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
  If you choose to draw a map, please make it graphic with detailed images


Objective: SWBAT describe the defeat of the Germans and Japanese in WWII.
Warm up: What was the Casablanca Conference? Why was it important? Who was there?
Homework: Finish 12.5 questions and political cartoon.
